Watercolor paint is pooled upon a non-porous support called “Yupo”, which is a polypropylene material originally developed for the Las Vegas gambling trade to make non-bendable playing cards. The polypropylene surface carries watercolor paint in the most vivid ways: causing granulation, atmospheric effects, and a light-filled pigment luminosity. The color lies upon the surface rather than sinking into the surface. I find that the medium of watercolor is complementary to this material and to the circle’s ubiquitous shape and tentative nature.

The series title, “Vanishing Point”, refers to the circle as a point of light, a focused perspective; and both metaphorically and literally- a surface that is open and vulnerable. The imagery is meant to be suggestive in a poetic way.
